In the novel The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope, a character who is honourable is the Princess Flavia. When Rassendyll tells her that he is leaving to hunt for Duke Michael, Princess Flavia promises to do her duty and rule Ruritania as Queen, if Rassendyll does not come back, even if she is heartbroken. When Rassendyll tells her that he is leaving Ruritania, Princess Flavia’s honour will not allow her to leave the country with him, though she loves him dearly. After Rassendyll leaves Ruritania, the only thing that she does is to send him a single red rose each year through Fritz.
