Prisoner of Zenda: Question & Answer - Moral Value

Based on the novels you have read, write about a lesson you have learnt. Give evidence from the novel to support your answer.

Recommended Outline
  • Name the novel you have chosen
  • State which character you have chosen
  • Give examples from the text (characters or events) that explain the lesson you have learnt.

The novel The Prisoner of Zenda has many valuable lessons. The lesson I have learnt from this novel is that greed for power can lead to a lot of evil and cause a lot of suffering. Duke Michael wants to be King. He sends a bottle of drugged wine to King Rudolf V, so that he cannot attend his own coronation. Duke Michael is even willing to start a civil war in the country, and to murder his own brother to become King. As for Rupert of Hentzau, he wants power and money, as well as Antoinette de Mauban. So, he is most willing to betray Duke Michael and the other men to get what he wants. Thus, we see that greed for power can cause a lot of suffering, especially to the innocent.
